Sporting Breeds
Field Trails are for Pointing, Retrieving and Flushing bird dogs. It is an AKC sanctioned competition in which upland bird dogs compete against each other. Field Trials can be either horseback handled or walking trials and are judged by 2 judges and are run inbraces. The classes are Puppy, Derby, Open and All Age. There is only one winner in each stake and only Open and All Age will determine the winner of the day. To earn a title you must accumulate a total of 10 points with one 5 point major. Also AKC sanctioned, a hunt test is an event at which the natural ability and training of gun dogs are evaluated against a written standard. Each dog that meets this standard earns a pass. It takes 4 or 5 qualifying scores to win a title depending on the stake that you are running in. Hunt tests are always foot handled. The classes for Hunt Test are Junior, Senior and Master.
